Aannemingsbedrijf Aertssen was working diligently on the other side of the language border - in Louvain La Neuve (Belgium) to be exact. We were working there on the construction of an underground parking garage for the NMBS. It’s a job characterised by impressive numbers.

3200 parking places on the Boulevard de Wallonie in Louvain La Neuve will have a brand-new underground parking garage. The parking garage will have around 3200 parking places divided among the 5 underground floors that Aertssen is now excavating.

A 400,000 m³ construction site
It’s an impressive site: the open construction pit in which the structure was being built is 18 m deep, with a surface area of 28,000 m². In total, we removed 400,000 m³ of earth from the construction site and transported this away using trucks and tractors. Nearly 100,000 m³ remained in place; we placed this using dumpers for later completion of the construction site and elevation of the surrounding area.

In addition to the excavation, our craftsmen performed other series of jobs such as the emplacement of foundation pads, the foundation under the floor plate and the sewerage. The excavation has now been finished entirely and foundation activities are approaching completion. The entire construction cost € 30 million and will ultimately take 350 workdays. In short, a project with impressive numbers.
