In the very heart of Dubai, Earth Moving Worldwide is helping with the expansion of one of the most famous beaches in the United Arab Emirates: Jumeirah Open Beach. This beach is not just getting a facelift, it will soon also sport a new name: La Mer.

The Jumeirah Open Beach makeover - now La Mer - is a huge project. The total cost amounts to $213 million, some € 196 million. Two new peninsulas have been created - North en South Peninsula - with a connector between them called Headland. Beaches are being created at the ends of both peninsulas, and at various parts between them. And that is where EMW sprung into action.

14,000 m³ of dredged sand
During the work, a hopper unloads approximately 14,000 m³ of sand into the dredging depot every 7 hours. To have things run well at the depot, EMW has called on considerable power: 5 Caterpillar D6R LGP bulldozers, 2 Caterpillar 980H bucket loaders with special pipe clamps and 3 Caterpillar 349D LGP cranes.

6 million tons of rocks
EMW also helped with the construction of the shoreline defences. For this, an impressive flagship, the Sennebogen 880EQ, was called on. It can place rocks of up to 7 tons and do so at a maximum range of up to 40 m. In addition, other conventional digging cranes were deployed with ranges of up to 22 m in order to get the 6 million tons of rocks precisely in place.

So you see: a challenging job with a huge amount of power and with the opportunity for expansion. You’re bound to hear more about this project.
