Strong together. That’s why Aertssen Kranen and ALE, experts in heavy lifting and transport projects, are joining forces for Total’s OPTARA project. Resulting in flawless execution.

Total is investing €1 billion in its biggest refinery and petrochemical cluster in Antwerp. This will soon be even larger still, since Total is renovating an existing production unit there and building a new one. These investments are part of the OPTARA project - an acronym for Optimisation in the Antwerp-Rotterdam Area. Aertssen and ALE entered into a temporary partnership for the execution of this project.

Transport and installation
During their collaboration, Aertssen and ALE are responsible for the transport of the main modules. This involves pieces weighing more than 1000 tons that must be transported from Tarragona, Spain to the refinery in Antwerp. The first modules arrived in Antwerp at the beginning of October. Local transport of the towering components (more than 23 m tall) over the Scheldelaan – the main artery in the harbour of Antwerp - was done using SPMT axle lines. And for the heavy columns that have yet to be transported and put in place, ALE and Aertssen are counting on their extraordinary hoisting equipment.

Saskia Aertssen, Branch Manager at Aertssen: “The services at Aertssen and ALE complement each other perfectly. The customer can always count on the most suitable working method and a flexible approach. It’s no wonder that we saw the first components arrive with confidence. And the next load is more than welcome!”
