In Roux (BE), Aertssen Kranen and Aertssen Transport worked together at lightning speed to replace the old railway bridge with a brand new one. An assignment for which the valuable experience we gained in Liège with the Henri Maus bridge came in handy.

Exceptional transport

Aertssen Transport took care of the first part of the assignment. The key to success is proper preparation, and that was no different this time round. The calculations were made, the permits were arranged and even the police were on standby... When everything was prepared for the arrival of our heavy machinery, namely a modular trailer with two turntables weighing 150 ton each (for extra manoeuvrability), they quickly transported the five concrete bridge decks of more than 200 tons each to Roux and passed them on to the Roll-it SPMTs.

From old to new

The new bridge in situ. The old bridge was readied to make room for its replacement. Together with the local contractor, we started on this operation one step at a time. As soon as the tracks and the ballast were removed, we were able to remove the old bridge decks using our SPMTs. Two mobile cranes – 500 tonne class – placed the new decks on the SPMTs. The brand new elements were driven carefully between the bridgeheads. After two closures during one weekend the job was finished on time and trains were able to resume normal service, thanks to our groups excellent teamwork!
