At the beginning of April, Aertssen Kranen and Roll-iT had a remarkable assignment on the schedule: the replacement of the Henri Maus railway bridge in Luik. Not so much because of its weight or dimensions, but due to its location: the Henri Mausstraat runs underneath the bridge, and the E25 highway runs above it; there are also two extremely busy rail lines running along it that must remain fully operational during the work.

At the beginning of April, Aertssen Kranen and Roll-iT had a remarkable assignment on the schedule: the replacement of the Henri Maus railway bridge in Luik. Not so much because of its weight or dimensions, but due to its location: the Henri Mausstraat runs underneath the bridge, and the E25 highway runs above it; there are also two extremely busy rail lines running along it that must remain fully operational during the work.

Replacing the old bridge with a new one in such a limited space demanded an original approach: Aertssen decided to place the old bridge on a support structure, raise this up by a meter, and then to move it. For this, we relied on Roll-iT, a company that deployed 12 SPMT axle lines. We then manoeuvred two compact city cranes into the space that had been freed up. They professionally placed the bridgeheads, after which the new 130-ton bridge could finally be installed.
