After transportation of the new bridge to Auby (France) during the summer holidays, the weekend of 25-26 August finally marked its installation.

The bridge was transported to the site in combination with the first phase of the work that we carried out for our customer. When Victor Buyck had finished building the new bridge at his site in BUMAR, we picked it up, transporting it by water to the quayside. Once there, we used cranes to install the arches and pedestrian walkways.

Six weeks later the bridge was ready and we were ready to begin installation. Using SPMTs and the new Roll-it supports, the bridge was hoisted from a height of 1.6 metres to 4.3 metres. The SPMT’s then carried it to a barge so that it could be manoeuvred over the water and into its final position.

Technical specifications for the bridge

  • span approximately 42.5 metres
  • width 13.5 metres
  • height 8.1 metres
  • weight approximately 240 tons
