The “Londenbrug” closed in August 2016 and will replaced by a new and larger one. Roll-iT and Aertssen Kranen deployed their heavy equipment to remove the old bridge and install the new one.

Together with Almex, we demolished the old bridge and transported various bridge elements by truck. The bridge deck was also removed, by means of our SPMT type SPLIT. This way the old brigde made way for a new one.

Roll-iT placed the new deck of the bridge on a pontoon in Ghent, and transported it to Antwerp. Once arrived, Roll-iT moved the deck off the pontoon with SPMTs and a jack-up system (JS250). The JS250 system lifted the deck, which weighed 300 tons, about five meters in height to pass a guard house. Next our experts lowered the new bridge deck in place, resting on its final support points.

In the future trams will drive over the new Londenbrug and connect the Antwerp city center with the Havenhuis and Noorderlaan.
