Aertssen Transport was contracted to carry a reactor from Antwerp to Liverpool. Because of its exceptional size of 34.75 x 4.25 x 4.35 meters, and its weight of 70.200 kilos, we concluded that the best approach would be to load it onto a seven-axle semi-deep loader in combination with a six-axle dolly trailer.

Aertssen Transport was contracted to carry a reactor from Antwerp to Liverpool. Because of its exceptional size of 34.75 x 4.25 x 4.35 meters, and its weight of 70.200 kilos, we concluded that the best approach would be to load it onto a seven-axle semi-deep loader in combination with a six-axle dolly trailer.

In order to effect the most economical transport for this load to Liverpool from Antwerp, where it had arrived by ship from India, we chose a multi-modular solution. Upon arrival from India in Antwerp the load was transferred directly from the ship to the truck. As permission to use the public highways was not allowed, the loaded combination was driven onto a RoRo barge and transported via the Antwerp harbour. Once it arrived at inloading quay, the drivers had the opportunity to show off their steering skills as they manoeuvred the truck from the RoRo ramp onto the cross-channel ferry boat. With so little room to move in, this was certainly no mean feat.

Efficient cooperation
Two days after leaving Antwerp, the ship arrived in Liverpool. Once there, we were obliged to travel several kilometres along public highways in order to reach our final destination. Since this was no ordinary transport load, routes had to be adjusted at some locations. Accompanied by a companion vehicle and a police escort, the truck was able to negotiate the route and reach the yard safely. Efficient cooperation among all parties ensured that the reactor was delivered on time and without a hitch, precisely as planned.
