Demolition of General Motors, Antwerp
In October 2019, the temporary company 'De Meuter-Aertssen' started the demolition and remediation of the 88 ha site on behalf of Port of Antwerp.
Recyclage
During the project, maximum attention was paid to the recycling of construction and demolition waste. 210,000m² of non-tarred roofing, 60,000 tonnes of scrap metal and 300,000 tonnes of concrete rubble were sorted for recycling. A large part was transported by ship. Finally, 1.4 million tonnes of clean soil were brought in via the nearby quay to level the site. In a period of 12 months, we prepared the site for the construction of the NextGen District.
