Aertssen Infra and Unilin join forces for circular wood processing
Aertssen Infra joins forces with partner Unilin, the makers of Quick-Step among others, for a joint mission in the circular economy! To this end, Aertssen Infra transforms wood waste into valuable raw materials, giving each piece of wood a sustainable purpose.
Circular processing of wood from demolition projects
Together with Unilin, we process wood originating from various circular demolition projects. In doing so, we use a detailed process to extract maximum value from each quality of wood:
- Wood of the very highest quality is first sorted and stored for full reuse. We look for suitable buyers who can make full use of these pieces.
- We deliver high-quality wood to Unilin who in turn make furniture panels from it. This paves the way for high-quality reuse, even if the original form is not preserved. A new life in the circular furniture industry.
- We use lower quality wood as green fuel. In this way, we ensure that even the least useful materials are still given a useful use and contribute to the energy supply.
Success story: RECOR project in the city of Hasselt
A great example of our joint sustainability efforts is the RECOR project in Stad Hasselt, which we carried out for our partners Futurn and Mathieu Gijbels. Here we recovered no less than 200 tons of wood, which we then delivered to Unilin. This resulted in the production of more than 200m³ of circular chipboards and produced an impressive CO2 saving of 171,404 kg.
Wood, which came from a former furniture factory, is now finding its way back into the furniture industry in a new, circular form. And so the circle is complete! With this approach, we not only contribute to the production of circular products, but also significantly reduce CO2 emissions.
At Aertssen Infra, we remain committed to innovative solutions that offer both economic and ecological benefits. This partnership with Unilin is a great example of how we are working together towards a circular economy and a sustainable world.
